Why Au Gres is the closest stop.
The Sunrise Coast is the Lake Huron shore, and US-23 is its main road. It is the official US-23 Sunrise Coast Pure Michigan Byway, a 200-mile state-designated scenic route that runs the coast from Standish north to Mackinaw City.1 Au Gres sits right on it, where US-23 meets Saginaw Bay and the open water of Lake Huron.
Heading south from the Tawas area, Au Gres is the first Highway Dispos you reach and the nearest recreational store on this part of the coast. Heading north from Bay City, it is the store on the far side of Standish, the last stop before the long open run up the shore. Either way, if you are anywhere near Tawas, Au Gres is your closest door.
Getting here.
- From Tawas City or East TawasUS-23 south, about twenty minutes. We are on the west side of US-23 in downtown Au Gres. Look for the green Highway 23 shield sign on the right as you come south.
- From Oscoda or up the coastFollow US-23 south through Tawas and East Tawas, then continue into Au Gres. The store is in the heart of downtown, on the west side of the highway.
- From Bay CityUS-23 north, about forty-five minutes along the Lake Huron coast: past Standish, through Omer, and into Au Gres. We are on the east side of US-23 coming north, on your left as you enter downtown.
- From Standish or I-75Take M-61 east about eighteen miles to US-23, or follow the coast up US-23. Our Standish store sits at I-75 Exit 190 if that one is closer for your trip.
What to expect when you arrive.
The store is in downtown Au Gres, on the west side of US-23, marked by the green Highway 23 shield. There is free parking in the lot. You can use the drive-through or walk in to the counter, whichever is easier for the trip. We are open 9 AM to 9 PM every day, including weekends and most holidays.
Inside you will find Michigan-grown flower, prerolls, edibles, vapes, and more, plus a crew that is glad to help whether it is your first visit or your hundredth. It is an adult-use store: anyone 21 or older with a valid government-issued photo ID can shop, and no medical card is required.3
Order ahead, or just stop in.
If you would rather not wait, order online from the Au Gres menu before you leave. Most orders are ready in about fifteen minutes, and the last pickup order each day is accepted at 8:45 PM. Choose the drive-through or in-store pickup at checkout, show your ID at the window or the counter, and you are on your way.
A note for the lake: Michigan law does not allow cannabis use in public places, at state parks, in state forests, or on a watercraft. Keep it sealed for the drive or the boat ride, and enjoy it later at a private residence where the owner allows it.3
While you are on the coast.
Au Gres is a few minutes from the water. The public boat launch is about four minutes away and the state park campground about seven. Tawas Point State Park, with its lighthouse, is up US-23 to the north.2 Omer, the smallest city in Michigan, is eight miles inland on US-23. We see a lot of fishing-trip and cottage-weekend stops; we are on the way for most of the Saginaw Bay east shore.
